Good morning. This is TheStreet's Stock Market Today for Aug. 20, 2025. The stock market is set to open soon.

Futures started to the downside, but have been trending up all morning. All four major U.S. indexes are pointing to either a modest loss or gain at the open, with the S&P 500 down just 9 bips before the market opens.

Here are the latest updates from the pulse of the market:

Update: 7:12 a.m. ET

Target Taps COO for Top Job in Exec Shakeup

Target  (TGT)  was once the envy of retailer for its beloved stance among the millennial crowd. No longer. In fact, it's hard to remember the last time that the hypermarket saw sales growth at all.

That's why it's looking within for the solution, tapping COO Michael Fiddelke to become the company's next CEO. He has worked at the company for 20 years. He will take over in Feb. 2026.

The company's once-magnificent stock has been lapped by wholesale competition such as Walmart  (WMT)  and ecommerce names like Amazon  (AMZN) , both of which offer a wider range of product at different price points.

They're also known to steer clear of a controversy; the same can't be said for Target, which tried to 'both sides' its way out of a culture war sparring match. In the end, it simply frustrated everybody.

Target's exceptionally bad few years fall on management. Whether it can ever truly become Tar-jhay again might ultimately lay at his feet of this long-time employee.

Update: 7:01 a.m. ET

Earnings Today: TJX Companies, Lowe's, Analog Devices

There are just 51 earnings set for today, per Nasdaq, but the retail sector is set to make them count. Firms like TJX Companies  (TJX) , Lowe's Companies  (LOW) , and Target  (TGT)  are set to dominate the discussion today.

Per TipRanks, these are the top ten earnings reports of the day, sorted by market capitalization:

Economic Data

Today will be another day of calm before the storm on Friday: Jackson Hole. There, Fed President Jerome Powell is expected to serve up the premier piece of central bank commentary this year.

In the meantime, investors will be treated to a handful of reports today, including speeches from the Fed's Waller and Bostic. We'll also get a look at the FOMC Minutes, arguably the most important nugget of insight that we'll get on the economic side today.

Here's the top reports due out today, per TradingEconomics:

Travis Kelce’s net worth: How much wealth does Taylor Swift’s boyfriend have?

Posted by TheStreet

At 6’5” and 250 pounds, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has that rare combination of size and speed that makes him unstoppable on the football field.

His formidable size allows him to block defensive linemen, while his speed and agility enable him to catch passes from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and run with the ball.

Kelce’s exceptional athleticism, his ability to read defenses, and his strong connection with Mahomes has made him one of the best tight ends in NFL history, and he holds records for most consecutive seasons with 1,000+ receiving yards (seven), most receiving yards in a single season (1,416 in 2020), and most receptions in the Super Bowl (35).

A 10-time Pro Bowler who’s played in five Super Bowls and won three, Kelce recently celebrated his 35th birthday, a milestone for any player in the NFL, but he says he has no plans to hang up his cleats anytime soon.

Despite Kelce’s many achievements, his most significant contribution to the game of football may actually come off the field, in the form of his relationship with one of the most popular musicians in history, Taylor Swift. Not only has the billionaire pop superstar increased NFL viewership among female demographics, she has also helped expand his reach in the entertainment industry—and beyond—which has added handsomely to his bottom line.

So, how much is Travis Kelce worth in 2025?

What’s Travis Kelce’s net worth in 2025?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Travis Kelce has an estimated net worth of $90 million in 2025.

In the first ten years of his NFL career, the footballer earned slightly less than $80 million:

  • His initial contract with Kansas City was a four-year, $3.12 million deal signed in 2013. It included a $703,304 signing bonus.
  • In 2016, Kelce signed a five-year extension worth $46 million, which included $20 million in guaranteed money.
  • In 2020, with two years left on his contract, Kelce signed a four-year extension for $57.25 million, with $28 million in guarantees.
  • In April 2024, Kelce signed a two-year extension worth $34.25 million along with $17 million in guarantees.
  • As part of the team that won Super Bowl LIV in 2020, Super Bowl LVII in 2023, and Super Bowl LVIII in 2024, Kelce received more than glitzy rings (although they, too, are valuable); according to the NFL collective bargaining agreement, he was also awarded bonuses of $130,000 in 2020, $164,000 in 2023, and $171,000 in 2024.
  • In 2025, Kelce’s salary with the Chiefs is estimated at $17 million.

When all is said and done, the famed tight end will have amassed more than $100 million in career earnings from football alone, but in light of Kelce’s romance with Swift, when it comes to income generation, he might be just getting started.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce generate buzz wherever they go, including their date nights in New York City.

What is the ‘Taylor Swift effect?’

In her music, Taylor Swift sings about a “single thread of gold” that connects her to her lover and signifies their enduring bond.

But her lyrics could also be taken literally. Everything Swift touches turns to gold, and the superstar is credited with helping to drive trends in pop culture—generating massive revenue in the process.

Take her first appearance at Kelce’s football game on October 1, 2023. The Kansas City Chiefs took on the New York Jets in a “Sunday Night Football” broadcast, and Swift was featured several times on the big screen—and more than 2 million female viewers tuned in to watch.

According to Nielsen, viewership among teenage girls ages 12–17 rose 53%, while viewership among young women aged 18–24 increased 24%, and viewership among women 35+ was up 34%.

But Swift's influence doesn’t just end with publicity—she has an impact on tickets and merchandise as well. According to Yahoo! Sports, after her first appearance, sales of Kelce’s jersey spiked 400%, while Stubhub reported a 175% increase in ticket sales. The NFL’s social media accounts have enjoyed a similar boost, particularly on younger platforms like TikTok.

In fact, Marketwatch estimates that Swift has made the NFL almost $1 billion since she started dating Travis Kelce in 2023.

Travis Kelce’s early life and football career

Travis Michael Kelce was born on October 5, 1989, in Westlake, Ohio. His father, Ed, was a salesman in the steel industry, while his mother, Donna, was a bank executive. Kelce has one sibling, an older brother named Jason, who played 13 seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles. The family’s heritage is Croatian.

Kelce attended Cleveland Heights High School, where he was a triple threat, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He received scholarship offers from Akron, Eastern Michigan, and Miami University of Ohio, but he ultimately accepted an offer from the University of Cincinnati.

However, Kelce was suspended for the 2010 season when he tested positive for marijuana. He redeemed himself by returning to the field and being named Tight End of the Year in 2013. He graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2022.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Kelce in the third round of the NFL Draft in 2013.

Travis Kelce’s business ventures

Capitalizing on his newfound fame with the Chiefs, not long after he was drafted, Kelce set his sights on something bigger than football: Hollywood.

TV and documentary appearances

In 2016, the tight end starred in the E! reality dating show “Catching Kelce.” He also appeared in the Showtime comedy series “Moonbase 8” in 2020, and in the Amazon Prime docu-series “Kelce,” which focused on his big brother Jason. I

n 2024, Kelce starred in another Prime series, “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” This time as the host. The 20-episode series was renewed in 2025.

Kelce has hosted “Saturday Night Live,” appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” and served as an executive producer on two 2024 dramas: “My Dead Friend Zoe” and “King Pleasure” (2024). He also appeared in the Ryan Murphy production, “Grotesquerie,” in 2024 and in Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 in 2025.

More sports & money:

Music festivals

Admitting to Forbes that his world “revolves around music,” in 2023, Kelce started his own music festival in Bonner Springs, Kansas, called Kelce Jam. The lineup included Diplo, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Wayne and drew crowds of 18,000 and 20,000 in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The festival took a year-long hiatus in 2025 but plans to return in 2026—just in time for his girlfriend's next tour.

Brands

In 2019, the famed athlete started his own health brand of performance nutrition supplements called Hilo Nutrition. In 2020, he launched his own clothing line, Tru Kolors, which rolled out a collab with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kelce is also part-owner of Cholula Hot Sauce and an angel investor in Casa Azul tequila. Kelce and his brother Jason bought a majority stake in Garage Beer in 2024; Kelce also has a stake in the French Formula One racing team Alpine, along with his friends Ryan Reynolds and Patrick Mahomes. In addition, he has his own line of barbecue products, Travis Kelce’s Kitchen, inspired by Kansas City BBQ and sold at Walmart.

Podcasts

But Kelce’s biggest claim to entertainment fame has been the podcast he co-hosts with brother Jason: “New Heights.” Started in 2022, the weekly podcast covers the NFL, celebrity interviews, and other sports news, along with some good, old-fashioned Kelce brothers’ reminiscing.

The podcast quickly became one of the top shows on Spotify and Apple, particularly when the brothers squared off in Super Bowl LVII in 2023; however, due to their positions on their respective team’s offensive lines, the brothers never actually played on the field at the same time.

In August 2024, Kelce and his brother signed a three-year, $100 million deal with Amazon to broadcast their show on the brand’s Wondery label. Not bad for a venture Kelce himself has described as his “personal dating app,” since it’s where he first lamented his attempt to give Swift a friendship bracelet he had made after attending her July 8, 2023, concert. (She heard about it and was charmed, and the rest is history)

In fact, when Swift appeared on the August 13, 2025, episode of "New Heights" to announce her next album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” she pulled in 19 million viewers on YouTube alone, setting a record for the podcast and increasing the show’s female listeners by 600%. In fact, so many people tuned in that the podcast hit a glitch that took several hours to restore.

While it’s true that Kelce was doing just fine in his life before he met his girlfriend, it can’t be argued that she has exponentially raised his profile, from his social media fanbase to the number of people wearing his jersey—regardless of whether or not they actually watch football.

Travis Kelce's sponsorships

In addition to his own ventures, Kelce has inked million-dollar endorsement deals with global brands like Dick’s Sporting Goods, DirecTV, Bud Light, Experian, McDonald's, Nike, Old Spice, Papa John’s, Pfizer, Sleep Number, T-Mobile, Tide, State Farm, and Walgreens.

Are Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift engaged?

Engagement speculation reached a fever pitch in July 2025, when Kelce shared photos of the couple on Instagram. One picture in particular caused a stir when fans zoomed in; they noticed a photo of Swift on Kelce's lock screen appearing to flash a massive rock on her finger. E! News learned Swift wasn't sporting an engagement ring but rather wearing one of Kelce's three Super Bowl rings

"Fans need to calm down," the celebrity news site quipped.

When did Travis Kelce meet Taylor Swift?

After Kelce left Swift's July 2023 Eras Tour concert empty-handed (he had made her friendship bracelets with his phone number in anticipation of the event), he complained about his missed opportunity on his New Heights podcast.

Swift heard about this and reached out to Kelce, later relating his romantic gesture to the famous scene from the 1989 hit, Say Anything:

"This kind of felt more like, I was in an ’80s John Hughes movie and he was just standing outside my window with a boombox just being like, ‘I want to date you. Do you want to go on a date with me? I made you friendship bracelets. Do you want to date me?’"

In September 2023, it was revealed and confirmed that Kelce and Swift were dating, and Swift made things official when she started attending Kelce’s football games.

Swift embracing Kelce on the field of State Farm Stadium after the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win Super Bowl LVII was one of the most popular news stories of 2023.

Travis Kelce's relationship history

Before becoming a Swiftie, Kelce dated Maya Benberry, the winner of "Catching Kelce" in 2016, although they had broken up by the following January.

Kelce then started dating social media influencer Kayla Nicole Brown, and their relationship lasted from 2017 to May 2022. On her podcast "The Pre-Game," Brown admitted that she felt uncomfortable dating in the public eye, adding, "I don't think I ever want to publicly date another man until I am absolutely sure that they are my long-term person."

Travis Kelce's real estate portfolio

Apparently, Kelce's "glow up" after he began dating Swift included real estate, too.

In 2019, he bought a 10,000-square-foot mansion in the Kansas City suburb of Briarcliff West for $995,000.

But in October 2023, Architectural Digest reported that Kelce purchased a second, bigger home in the KC area—this one for $6 million. The mansion boasts 17,000 square feet on nearly 4 acres of land, with six bedrooms and six bathrooms, a six-car garage, a wine cellar, a tennis court, a miniature golf course, and a large swimming pool.

Ostensibly, the couple was in need of some privacy, because, as Swift put it so well "Romance is not dead if you keep it just yours."

Treasury Secretary delivers candid take on US buying Intel stock

Posted by TheStreet

Intel has been on the hot seat with Washington, D.C., over concerns that it may be slow-walking semiconductor manufacturing plans following a shakeup that removed former CEO Pat Gelsinger and installed current CEO (and former Board of Directors member) Lip-Bu Tan earlier this year.

The worries came to a boiling point in early August when President Trump suggested Lip-Bu Tan was "highly CONFLICTED," suggesting he should resign after Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton questioned Tan's ties to Chinese chipmakers, including investments.

The situation was heated enough that Tan boarded a plane only days later to meet with President Trump face-to-face on August 11. This meeting has since led to the possibility that the US may take an ownership stake in Intel  (INTC) , an idea that's sparked debate.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent believes investing in Intel is a matter of National Security.

Bloomberg/Getty Images

Treasury Secretary Bessent defends US investment in Intel

President Trump has previously discussed the potential for the US to create a sovereign wealth fund to profit from US business investments similar to those of other countries, including Saudi Arabia.

He's already created a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile funded by seized or forfeited cryptocurrency.

Related: Lip-Bu Tan’s net worth: The Intel CEO’s wealth after White House visit

The idea has drawn praise for its potential to provide a return on government dollars given to companies via grants, and concern over whether it could create an unlevel playing field for rivals.

Secretary Bessent, a former Wall Street hedge fund manager trained under legendary stock picker Stanley Druckenmiller, attempted to alleviate some of those concerns in a CNBC interview on August 19.

"The last thing we are going to try and do is take a stake and then try to drum up business," said Bessent. "There is no talk of trying to force companies to buy from Intel."

Bessent argued that providing financial stability to Intel, and perhaps other companies in the future, is a matter of national security.

In recent years, the US government has paid significant attention to the high-tech industry over the risks associated with selling next-gen technology to countries, including China, which could potentially use that technology against us.

For instance, earlier this year, Nvidia and AMD faced additional restrictions limiting the sale of artificial intelligence chips to China, resulting in steep write-offs. Last month, those semiconductor companies agreed to share 15% of their China revenue on those chips with the U.S. in exchange for new export licenses.

"99% of the advanced chips in the world are made in Taiwan," said Bessent. "For national security, we have to stop that single point of failure."

Howard Lutnick is all-in on an Intel stake

The seeds for an investment in Intel were planted by the Biden Administration's $52.7 billion CHIPS and Science Act in 2022, legislation designed to provide grants to semiconductor manufacturers to build "fabs," large semiconductor manufacturing plants, on US soil.

Related: Top tech stock analyst revamps AI 'buy' list

Intel was the largest recipient of CHIPS Act grants, receiving $7.9 billion. When those funds were awarded in November 2024, the White House said they would "directly support Intel’s expected U.S. investment of nearly $90 billion by the end of the decade" and that "The Department will disburse the funds based on Intel’s completion of project milestones."

Intel's progress toward boosting US manufacturing has slowed amid mounting losses and Tan's pivot toward cost-cutting, including layoffs

"We need to make our own chips here," said Lutnick on CNBC. "Why are we giving a company worth $100 billion this kind of money? What is in it for the American taxpayer? The answer Donald Trump has is we should get an equity stake for our money."

The White House has confirmed that Lutnick is negotiating with Intel on an equity stake, according to Reuters.

The mechanics of such a deal aren't fully fleshed out, given that the CHIPS Act doesn't require companies to provide equity to receive grants.

Nevertheless, the White House is committed to pursuing this approach, possibly expecting that companies will decide the upside of US ownership outweighs any risks.

"Instead of just giving grants away, we should get benefits," said Lutnick.

What's next for Intel amid losses?

I remember when Intel was one of the stock market's hottest stocks during the Internet boom. However, over the years, Intel has lost luster to smaller, faster-moving rivals like Nvidia, which has turned a niche of making super-fast graphic processors for gaming into the most coveted chips used to train and operate AI chatbots and agentic AI apps.

More Tech Stocks:

Last quarter, Intel's sales were flat, while Nvidia's grew 69% year over year. Intel lost 10 cents per share in the second quarter, while Nvidia made 81 cents per share, up 33% from one year ago.

Intel would seem unlikely to catch up to Nvidia, given Nvidia commands roughly a 90% share in the AI chip market, even if it gets an influx of government cash.

However, that doesn't mean Intel can't continue to win business providing silicon for other uses, such as industrial or consumer technology, like desktops and laptops, or that it can't win in supplying CPUs that help AI work more efficiently. For instance, its Xeon 6776P processor is the host CPU for NVIDIA's high-end DGX B300 server for AI workloads.

It also doesn't mean that Intel's renewed cost-consciousness won't translate into stock-friendly earnings growth.

"We are also taking the actions needed to build a more financially disciplined foundry," said Tan in Intel's second-quarter earnings release."

Wall Street's average estimate is for earnings per share to rise to 66 cents per share in 2026 from 12 cents in 2025 and revenue to reach $53.8 billion, up from $52.01 billion.

Still, Intel's stock is already up 26% this year, suggesting that at least some of this optimism is currently priced into its stock.

According to TipRanks, only one Wall Street analyst rates it a "buy", 26 rate it a "hold," and 3 rate it a "sell." Hardly a resounding vote of confidence.

The Google Pixel 10 phones themselves will have magnets built-in. That goes for all four Pixel phones, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. So, you won’t even need a case to use those magnets, but… many of you will want one, that’s for sure.

We do know how much everything else will cost, however, at least in the US. A detailed pricing leak appeared earlier today, and revealed pretty much everything.

Google Pixel 10 Ad Shows Camera Coach in Action Hours Before Launch

Google Pixel 10 Coach Photo ad leak

Google will announce its new Pixel phones later today, and as we’re waiting for that event, the company’s ad surfaced. A tipster, Arsene Lupin, shared a 30-second Pixel 10 series ad with the world.

Google’s Camera Coach feature gets shown in leaked Pixel 10 series ad

The video is shown below. If you fire it up, you’ll realize that the ad is in French, it’s obviously made for the French market. It does, however, show us the phones, and it focuses on the Pixel camera.

Not a lot is shown in these 30 seconds, but you can see the camera UI and several features in action. The all-new ‘Camera Coach’ feature is demoed here, a feature that will be boosted by Gemini.

That is a feature that we exclusively revealed not long ago. This is a confirmation that it’s coming. This feature is supposed to help people take better photos in real time, thanks to some help from AI.

The Video Boost feature is also shown in this ad

The second feature that is shown is video boost, which is not exactly new, but it’s definitely worth advertising. At the very end of the ad, you can see an image of the Pixel 10 Pro or 10 Pro XL. The two phones look the same, they’re just different size-wise.

The Google Pixel 10 series has been leaking out for a long time now. We’ve had a ton of exclusive leaks, revealing various details about the device. The Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold smartphones will launch today. They’ll be joined by the Pixel Watch 4 smartwatch and the Pixel Buds 2a earbuds.

Only the Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL smartphones will become available this month. The other three devices are said to be released in October.

iPhone 17 to Get Eco-Friendly 'Synthetic Fabric' Case as FineWoven Replacement

Posted by Android Headlines

Oplus 16908288

By Apple standards, the FineWoven was a total catastrophe. It started to wear and fade, and FineWoven became FineMess. In a bid to put that into the recesses of memory, a new leak suggests Apple will introduce a new phone case for its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, including what many are calling the iPhone 17 Pro leather case replacement.

Two sources, leaker Majin Bu and tech news site 9to5Mac, are reporting that Apple plans to introduce a new phone case made from “synthetic fabric.” This new case it seems will be toeing the same line as FineWoven, as Apple continues to pull away from using leather in any of its products.

FineWoven was released alongside iPhone 15 back in 2023. Apple heralded the launch as a replacement for leather, and FineWoven a perfect material. It made its way into other Apple products like the Apple Tags and Apple Watch bands. It didn’t pan out well for it though as iPhone users began reporting its quick disintegration. Apple stopped production, and here we are with its attempt at another phone case made from materials other than leather.

The “synthetic fabric” of the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup

It would seem apple is trying to address concerns that stem from the FineWoven saga. The new “synthetic fabric” material of the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, according to Majin Bu, will have a “visible textile texture” and “matte colors” of “green, orange, blue, and purple.” Cue possible colors of the iPhone 17 lineup? It will come sturdy, with “enhanced resistance” to counter scratches and daily wear. And of course, be eco-friendly. Which is Apple’s motivation for ditching leather in the first place, as it seeks to move users from the traditional iPhone 17 Pro leather case to new synthetic options.

Here’s a picture of the iPhone 17 Pro in “synthetic fabric” shared by Majin Bu. It’s in orange, a possible new color for the iPhone 17. If you look closely, right in the middle is the Apple logo symbol, peaking just sneakily.

iPhone 17 Pro synthetic fiber case

Another image below shared by Majin Bu shows the four earlier mentioned colorways of the iPhone 17 lineup: green, orange, purple, and blue.

iPhone 17 Synthetic fiber

What other accessories could launch with the new iPhone 17 Pro leather case alternative?

Everything else Apple might be releasing alongside the iPhone includes an integrated lanyard loop. Majin Bu rates this as confirmed. We can only wait and see. It’s the way these things are until they become official. The lanyard loops though aren’t as novel as the synthetic fabric cases. They are already used in the AirPods Pro 2 cases that allow you to swing them about.

Apple could also launch “Liquid Glass” cases. What’s with all the Liquid, Apple? iOS 26 is already an OS mimicking glass, and now we have a case for that name too? Information Hygiene: Important Habits for Data Protection

Posted by Android Headlines

Password image 82938342958943

The internet has become integral to our social and work lives today. It is possible to carry out banking, shopping, or even just talking with friends on the internet. However, this ease has its problems, which expose our data to danger all the time.

Cyber criminals not only attack companies; they also target individuals because they are less protected. Information hygiene involves developing certain behaviors that help safeguard one’s personal data from unauthorized users. For instance, just as brushing teeth helps prevent tooth decay, there are good digital practices that can help prevent data breaches.

Awareness Is the First Layer of Defense

In order to defend yourself, you must first identify the threats. Many people assume their devices are safe until something goes wrong. However, cyber threats often remain invisible for weeks or months. For example, Mac users sometimes believe their systems are immune to attacks. That’s a myth. Even on a Mac, malware, spyware, or phishing attempts can succeed if you’re not careful. Make it a routine to regularly check if your Mac was hacked or compromised with Moonlock. This isn’t paranoia — it’s preventive care for your digital life. Like you go for a health check-up, your devices deserve one too.

Strong, Unique Passwords

Leaving the front door widely open and expecting nobody to see is indicative of a weak password. Password guessing is not done manually by hackers – they have programs that can try out millions of combinations in no time. Stay one step ahead by making different passwords for each account that you have. Ensure that it is not less than twelve characters long and contains a mix of capital and small letters, numbers, and symbols when creating such a password. If you find it hard to remember all of them like you would when trying to memorise a phone book, then go for a password manager. This high-tech safe will keep all your keys, and you will never forget any of them!

Two-Factor Authentication

Although having a strong password is beneficial, it becomes even more effective when combined with 2FA. The latter usually consists of an extra security code, which is either sent to the user’s cell phone or generated by means of some authenticator app. If a hacker gets around your password, they can’t just use it to get in; it’s the house lock-and-key and alarm system analogy.

Keep Software Updated

It is simple to pay little attention to the “update available” pop-ups; however, doing so is very dangerous. Most updates have security patches aimed at repairing newly discovered bugs. In their absence, your system is vulnerable just as a house with broken windows can be broken into easily. Ensure that your devices update automatically, and you will be safe all the time, even if you forget to do it.

Be Careful with Public Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi in restaurants or airports may seem convenient, but it is not entirely secure. Hackers can easily steal any information you transmit on such networks, and that includes even your most sensitive data or passwords. Whenever you have no other option than using a public hotspot, make sure that you avoid logging into important profiles. On top of that, employing VPN for the encryption of the connection would be the best course of action. This is like whispering and not shouting in a place with many people.

Recognize Phishing Attempts

Personal data is normally extracted from individuals by deception in phishing emails and messages. Your bank, a courier service, or even one of your friends may at times pretend to be communicating with you. Key indicators may be poor grammar, questionable hyperlinks, information requests that demand immediate response among others. When in doubt, contact the company through proper channels.

Limit the Information You Share Online

Do not post much online. The less they know, the less advantage they will have over you. Details such as your full birth date and home address, and even innocuous details like the name of your pet or favorite sports team can be used in guessing passwords, answering security questions, or just to obtain enough information to impersonate you: in short, to steal your identity.

Backup Your Data Regularly

No matter how careful you may be, there is still the possibility of being affected by ransomware, experiencing a hardware breakdown, or mistakenly deleting something, which is the worst-case scenario. Hence, the importance of backing up your data at regular intervals. Yeah, it’s great to have different backup options as well. With cloud backups and an external drive, you have added security against any mishaps.

Daily Habits for Digital Safety — A Quick Checklist

How can you enhance your security and safety while online? Integrate good hygiene practices into your daily schedule. Presented below are ten tips which when followed will enhance your security and safety while online.

  1. Review your account security settings once a month.
  2. Employ a password keeper to help you remember complex passwords.
  3. Enable 2FA whenever possible.
  4. Log out of accounts on shared devices.
  5. Never click on suspicious links in an email or message.
  6. Set reminders for automatic backups.
  7. Turn off public Wi-Fi when you’re not using it.
  8. Keep your antivirus software up to date.
  9. Check your device for unusual sign-ins in your activity log. (You can do this on most devices.)
  10. Be wary of providing personal info unless you’re absolutely sure it’s necessary.

The Role of Physical Security

Software is not the only thing that matters in cybersecurity. Physical access to your devices can pose an equal threat. With an unlocked laptop or phone, one may bypass many digital security systems. Make sure that you lock all your devices and consider using biometric identifiers such as fingerprints or facial recognition.

Building a Long-Term Mindset

Maintaining good information hygiene practices is important, but don’t think you can do it once and then forget about it. Cyber threats are constantly evolving – and your habits need to evolve too. Stay curious and keep learning. One way to do this is by reading up on new types of scams, security tools, and techniques for protecting yourself online.

Your Data, Your Responsibility

Ultimately, data protection is all about responsibility. It is not sensible to sleep with the front door open. This logic is applicable on the internet too. With these practices, one can be able to create a strong immunity for himself from various digital infections. Proper information hygiene should not only keep you secure — it also makes you feel at ease because everything in your environment is secured and prepared.

Alaska Airlines makes a rewards change many will like

Posted by TheStreet

Now that Alaska Airlines  (ALK)  has completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in a $1.9 billion deal in September 2024, the airlines that will continue to operate under the individual brands form a single network connecting non-mainland states to hundreds of domestic and international destinations.

On Aug. 20, Alaska announced that it will also merge the loyalty programs Mileage Plan and HawaiianMiles into the single Atmos Rewards alongside with launching the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite  (V)  credit card to be used for collecting points and building status.

Don't miss the move: SIGN UP for TheStreet's FREE Daily newsletter

A merged rewards program, same status updates

The new rewards program allows members to earn points by either distance traveled (one point for every mile), price paid (five points for every $1) or segment flown for those who would benefit from that option because they often travel back-and-forth between nearby cities.

The same status milestones that Alaska reworked last fall — 10,000 points unlocks the first perks while 250,000 are needed to achieve the most elite level offering lounge access and fare upgrades — will be available to travelers flying on either of the airline brands. Alaska Mileage Plan travelers have been automatically transitioned to Atmos Rewards when the news was announced while HawaiianMiles members will be migrated over by Oct. 1.

Related: A major airline has launched a new credit card

The Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite created in partnership with the Bank of America  (BAC)  is also designed to combine the existing Alaska Airlines Visa Signature and Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Mastercard  (MA) .

The card comes with ample perks – a Global Companion Award that lets those who hit spending milestones book a discounted second seat, eight lounge passes per year, a free checked bag and premium boarding, waived same-day ticket change fees and tripled points collection on dining and foreign purchases — but similarly to other premium cards has a hefty entry bar: a $395 annual fee, qualifying credit and income as well as the high spending thresholds to take advantage of some of the top benefits.

Alaska released this promotional image of the new Atmos Rewards Summit credit card.

Alaska Air Group

'We crafted this card from the ground up'

As part of its launch promotion, travelers who use it to spend over $6,000 within the first 90 days of opening will get 100,000 bonus points to put toward flights or other purchases with the airline.

As part of the card's rules, points can also be transferred to partnering hotel credit card programs to spend there. Those who used the card to book a flight will also be eligible for an instant $50 credit for flights that are canceled within 24 hours of departure time or delayed by more than two hours — it will be added to one's card as a voucher that needs to be used within 48 hours.

More on travel:

"The Atmos Rewards Summit card sets a new bar for what a premium travel card can be – globally connected, deeply rewarding and designed to elevate every step of the journey," Brett Catlin, vice president of loyalty, alliances and sales at Alaska Airlines said in a statement. "We crafted this card from the ground up to offer unique, industry-leading benefits with outsized rewards and experiential enhancements unmatched by any other airline card."

iPhone 17 to Get Eco-Friendly 'Synthetic Fabric' Case as FineWoven Replacement

September is just around the corner, and we will see if these things pan out or if they are just that, rumors, including the expected iPhone 17 Pro leather case replacement.

Why do shoppers love it?

These smart earbuds require you to register with the Alexa app on your Android or iOS smartphone in order to personalize them and keep them updated, but they're certainly worth the effort if you're an Amazon customer already. They deliver up to five hours of continuous playback on a full charge, for up to 20 hours of playback with the included charging case, or for two hours of extra listening after a 15-minute quick charge.

They're also equipped with 12-millimeter audio drivers and a pair of microphones, so you can pair your new Echo Buds with two of your favorite devices and swap between taking phone calls and listening to an audiobook from your Audible library. Alexa supports integration with Siri and Google Assistant devices, and you can personalize the sound profile of your music playback with the app.

Details to know

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.2 with Android 8.0+ or iOS 14+ devices.
  • Color options: Black and glacier white — they're the same price.
  • Battery life: 5 hours of continuous playback, or 20 with the charging case.

"These have a fantastic sound and fit," said one reviewer. "Once in the Alexa app, it recognizes the earbuds instantly; I was set up in no time. And they just fit — these are the first pair of earbuds that I didn't have to do any messing around with. Just put them in and enjoy without any falling out. After a few minutes, you forget you've got them on, and they can be worn for a long time because of how comfortable they are. I highly recommend these for someone wanting a quality pair of earbuds in a decent price range."
